Considerations When Buying New Car Speakers
It used to be that a car came with one speaker mounted on the dashboard. In the 1950’s that was sufficient. But car sound systems have changed a lot since then. They now include amplifiers and multiple speakers straight from the factory. Since the 1970’s people have looked to upgrade the stock speakers in their cars or replace the old, worn out ones that the car came with.
Car Speakers
You should know that there are two distinct categories of speaker systems. You’ll want the one that not only fits your sound needs, but also fits in your budget.
First, is the component speaker system. It’s designed to produce the best quality of sound. The components, like the woofers and tweeters are separated so that they can be positioned around the inside of the car. These are typically higher priced systems and are for the customer that is looking for a more advanced system.
Next is the Full-Range system. This is an “all-in-one” unit that is simple to install, lower in price and can still produce a good range of sound. If you’re looking to replace your factory speakers this might be your best choice.
Sound Quality
The next thing to consider is the sound quality. Let’s face it, we all want the best quality that a set of car speakers will produce. So, here’s a couple of things to check. First is the frequency range. The wider the range the more sounds the speaker can reproduce. It’s not necessary to have the entire range (from 10Hz to 20,000Hz) to get good sound quality. In fact some of the extremely high frequencies can’t even be heard. So take a listen and see what’s best for you and your car.
You’ll also want to take a look into sensitivity rating. Although it doesn’t affect the sound directly, it controls how much sound your car speakers can create using the power that’s supplied to them. If you’ve got a low powered stereo, then choose a high sensitivity rating. If the stereo is high powered, then you can choose a lower sensitivity rating.
Whether you’re reconfiguring your car audio system or replacing worn out factory parts, we can help you create a system you’ll be proud to show off.
